Big Tires = Big Ruts

Remember the virgin mud I wrote about a few months ago?

I suppose this pasture would now be referred to as a harlot.

The chance for some mud digging arose on January 18th & 19th and like any good rednecks, we jumped at the opportunity.

Since our last visit the county had come in and declared a couple of spots "wetlands" which meant we had to stay out of it.

The good news is that the property owner did some work on the pasture for us.

So what looked like this the first visit:

Now looks like this:

That's a lot of water pumped in and a lot of disking with the tractor!!

Saturday morning we loaded up the trucks,  food & beer and made our way to the mud.

We were shocked to find many other trucks and campers already there.

Word had gotten out!

A good mudhole will bring in some nice trucks.

And some tug-of-war action.

We beat Nate out there, but soon he arrived.

After getting unloaded we hopped on the 4-wheelers to see what was in store for the trucks.

We'll call this:
"Mother & Son Bonding Over a Brewski"

It wasn't long before everyone was up and running.

Some were stuck

Some had bumpers ripped off while being snatched out
 (Nick says: "Thanks Nate")

Some were just creeping

 And some were crawling

After round one, the trucks didn't look too bad.

We sat around, had lunch and chatted with friends.

Yes folks, THAT is a boat hull and yes, it IS smoking!

Ryan had to fix a drive shaft

And us girls drank more beer!

As the day gets longer, the hole gets sloppier...and we love it!

My view from inside

We ended this day with some trail riding on the 4-wheelers.

I took this shot of Nate & Karissa while I was coppin' a squat in the woods.

Around 4:00, Trevor and I loaded up the Yota and came home. It's great being only 15 minutes away.

Unfortunately I did take a few videos but my camera is old and has lost it's "sharing" abilities. I will have a new one by the next bog and you'll be able to see my perspective.

The boys knew they would be coming back out on Sunday. I was planning on housework and laundry.

We really had a blast and if there's one thing that I've learned in my old age, it's that you must take every opportunity to have fun, especially when it involves your family.

That housework would be there come Monday.....

On Sunday, we ventured deep into the woods (hear the banjos?) to pick up a few friends and their 4-wheelers.

After a bit of rearranging, we toted two mud trucks and six 4-wheelers.

Our neighbor and his wife showed up

So Nate unloaded his bike and his land cruiser.

With a beer in one hand and a shot of Hot Damn in the other, Karissa and I hopped on the 4-wheeler to watch the boys do their thing.

Sometimes you gotta lock it in 4 wheel drive

Sometimes you need a helping hand (or rope in this case)

Sometimes those ropes are hooked to 4-wheelers, though I don't recommend that!!

That is our friend "Original Swamp Gangster, aka, O.S.G"
He does have a real name, but prefers not to use it.....something about warrants.

JUST KIDDING!!

We've known him since middle school and he's a great guy...bat shit crazy, but good none the less.

His day took a turn for the worse at this point. After pulling out a few trucks, successfully I might add, he couldn't get his winch cable to wind up so he wrapped it up and set it on the front rack.

A few beers later he decides to race Nate's Bronco across the pasture....they were neck in neck when his cable fell off, wrapped around his back tire and rolled him!

Here is a screen shot I managed to get off of the video.

We all jumped out to check on him and thank God he was fine. His bike on the other hand wasn't doing so well after his escapades.

He did manage to drive it the rest of the afternoon and made it back into his driveway before it went kaput!

When he called on Monday morning he was still assessing the damages to both his bike and his body.

There's nothing like a good weekend in the mud!

Til next time.....
